Four Ways Of Looking At A Rope

Saturday, May 22, 2010
A rope can be looked in 3 different dimensions.

A rope can be seen as a marriage symbol. Japanese Shinto priests first wed two hulking rocks more than 1300 years ago to symbolize the sanctity of marriage. Today husband rock and wife rock are still yoked together in the pacific ocean by 30 meters of rice straw rope which is replaced thrice a year. The sun appears to rise between the two points. A rope can be seen as homage.

Many high wire walkers have died on their last step, thinking they had made it. It requires a lot of strength and practice and perseverance to succeed in walking on a rope. Its highly impossible to tie a rope between the twin towers and walk on it. But alas there was one man who finally accomplished this task. He was a Frenchman. He was air-devil Philippe Petit.

And finally the rope can also be seen as cow control. In metropolitan cities it gets too crowded- for the stray cows that is. These animals roam the street and cause traffic jams. designated cow catchers now catch the cow with a rope and use the cows for transportation by tying them to bullock cart.
